When you think about evangelism, most become intimidated. Talking with people about Jesus and His word can be awkward if not downright nerve-wracking. It is my hope that as this year progresses, some, if not most of those fears can be worked through as we seek to be better equipped to fulfill the will of our Lord and Savior.
Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants
to speak your word with great boldness. Acts 4:29
With the church in its infant stage, the early disciples found it challenging to preach the truth in the midst of persecution and hardship. Although our circumstances may differ, we also, collectively, need to pray for boldness. Not only do we need God’s help to become bold, we also need to grow in our understanding of His truth. As the writer of Proverbs says, “It is not good to have zeal without knowledge” (Proverbs 19:2)
Our next Sunday morning adult bible class will be geared towards helping us accomplish these very things; that is, growing in our understanding of His truth combined with our need to share it. Each family will receive a book entitled Muscle and a Shovel written by Michael Shank. Along with this book, each adult participating in the class will receive a study booklet which is to be used in conjunction with the book. I have little doubt that those who commit themselves to this class and the work needed to go through it, will benefit immensely.
How we grow as individuals and as a church family are directly linked to our willingness to be committed to the maturing process. So let’s plan now, in advance of this new class that is coming, to be a willing participant. Let’s recommit ourselves to Christ and His church which He purchased with His blood.
